Hunter Gatherer Mental Health are seeking an experienced Family Worker to join a forward-thinking service supporting children, young people and families affected by substance use. This is an opportunity to work within a trauma-informed, whole-family approach to improve outcomes and resilience.

Key Details:

  • Role: Family Worker – Specialist Young People & Family Substance Use Support

  • Location: Oxfordshire (West, with travel across the county)

  • Duration: 3 months ongoing

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexibility required to meet family needs)

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • End Date: TBC

  • Rate of Pay: £20 – £21 per hour

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carrying a combined caseload of complex young people (8–18) and their families across targeted areas of Oxfordshire.

  • Providing specialist assessment, care planning and interventions around drugs and alcohol use using a trauma-informed approach.

  • Delivering evidence-based psychosocial and educational interventions, including the Moving Parents and Children Together (M-PACT) programme, to address parental substance use.

  • Working closely with targeted youth support teams, family centres, schools, colleges, and partner agencies.

  • Engaging with families in a variety of settings, including homes, schools, children’s centres and drop-ins.

  • Supporting children affected by another’s substance use and parents affected by their child’s substance use.

  • Developing stronger links between children’s and adult services through evidence-based interventions for all family members.

  • Contributing to whole-family trauma-informed and psychologically informed practice.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with young people, families, and substance use.

  • Strong assessment, care planning, and intervention skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and in partnership with multi-agency teams.

  • A flexible, family-focused approach with excellent communication skills.
