Job Title: Band 6 Nurse – Prison Healthcare Team
Location: Kent
Duration: Locum, Full-Time
Schedule: Shift Rota (including nights, weekends, and public holidays)
Start Date: ASAP
Rate of Pay: £30+ per hour

What You’ll Be Doing:

Join our dedicated healthcare team within a prison setting and play a key role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals within the criminal justice system. In this role, you will:

  • Conduct health assessments and triage prisoners to ensure their health needs are met.

  • Administer medications and provide clinical interventions as required.

  • Manage and support prisoners with long-term conditions, acute illnesses, and mental health issues.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, mental health professionals, and social workers.

  • Support the delivery of primary care services, including general health assessments, wound care, and health promotion.

  • Assist in developing and implementing care plans tailored to individual patient needs.

  • Provide education and support to prisoners regarding their health and well-being.

  • Ensure high standards of clinical governance and compliance with healthcare policies and procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A current and valid registration with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) as a Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN).

  • Significant post-registration experience, preferably in prison healthcare, forensic, or community nursing.

  • Strong clinical skills and experience in managing complex care needs.

  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of prison healthcare protocols, safeguarding procedures, and risk management.

Desirable:

  • Experience in substance misuse, mental health, or forensic nursing.

  • Prison healthcare experience or working in secure settings.

  • Relevant post-registration qualifications (e.g., substance misuse, mental health nursing).

Working Hours & Contract Duration:

This is a flexible locum role with shift-based hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays. The contract is ongoing, with a strong possibility of extension based on performance and service needs.
