A Day in the Life in Crisis Mental Health Care:

As a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist working within a Crisis and Home Treatment Team, your role will be vital in delivering high-quality psychological support to adults experiencing acute mental health episodes.

Your day may begin with MDT handovers and planning urgent care pathways. You’ll carry out rapid psychological assessments, support crisis de-escalation, and deliver focused therapeutic interventions. Your expertise will shape care plans, guide risk management strategies, and support discharge planning to ensure continuity of care at home.

You’ll also provide formulation-based input during MDT discussions, working alongside psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and support staff. In the afternoon, you may be called upon to offer guidance on complex presentations or review patients in their homes or in the community.

Through your clinical input, you’ll help reduce hospital admissions, shorten crisis episodes, and empower individuals to stabilise in their own environment.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Registration: HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist

  • Experience: Significant experience in adult mental health, ideally within crisis, HTT or CMHT settings

  • Skills: Strong assessment, formulation, and short-term intervention skills

  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate closely within multidisciplinary settings

  • Commitment: A compassionate approach to crisis recovery and patient-centred care
