Our prestigious facility is where compassionate care meets clinical excellence. We are looking for a dedicated nurse to be at the heart of our mission: delivering life-changing, abstinence-based care.

This is more than a job; it’s a chance to use your professional expertise to help patients on their most important journey—recovery.

About the Hospital

Our Mission: Compassion and Clinical Excellence

For over 35 years, our organisation has been a pioneer in addiction treatment, running a successful 12 Step abstinence-based programme since 1988. We are committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for people suffering from drug, alcohol, and mental health conditions.

  • A Unique Setting: Our hospital is nestled in the stunning Scottish Borders, just 45 minutes from Edinburgh and 50 minutes from Glasgow. We offer a therapeutic, tranquil environment for our patients and staff.
  • A Global Reach: We treat up to 80 patients on-site, with a strong commitment to teletherapy, and maintain a robust international presence with clinics and networks across Ireland, London, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

The Opportunity: Nurse Job Role

As a Registered Nurse at our centre, you will be fundamental to the quality of patient care. Working under the direction of the Head Nurse, your primary responsibility will be to uphold the highest standards of clinical practice from admission through to discharge.

You will play a direct role in patient success by assessing care needs, developing and implementing care plans, and ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment for all.

Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)

  • Clinical Leadership: Take charge of the nursing service on a regular basis in the absence of the Head Nurse, ensuring continuity of high-quality care.
  • Comprehensive Assessment & Planning: Be responsible for the full patient journey—from meticulous admissions to thorough discharge procedures.
  • Detoxification & Medication Management: Safely manage and administer medication, including the secure handling of detoxification protocols, and diligently observe and monitor patients undergoing detox.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Conduct crucial risk assessments, develop management plans, and ensure rigorous compliance with all Health and Safety requirements to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in the multidisciplinary team meetings and effectively supervise and mentor junior staff, promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Professional Standards: Maintain confidentiality as set out in the Hospital’s Confidentiality Procedure and practice within the framework of the NMC Code.
  • Work three x 12.5 hour shifts per week, covering days, nights, and weekends as per the duty rota.
  • Ensure a high standard of communication at nursing shift handovers and ensure that comprehensive notes have been made in the nursing Kardex and on the electronic patient data record (KIPU).
  • Participate in and contribute to meetings of the multidisciplinary team.

Essential Criteria (What You’ll Bring)

Professional Requirements

  • NMC Registration: Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is required. You must practice within the NMC Code and commit to Continual Professional Development (CPD).
  • Experience: Previous working experience within a similar position. Experience in substance abuse or psychiatric nursing is a significant benefit.
  • Legal Right to Work: You must be authorised to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Skills and Attributes

  • You must be caring, supportive, understanding, and compassionate.
  • You must possess excellent interpersonal skills and a professional understanding of maintaining boundaries.
  • You must be flexible, able to use own initiative, and committed to being person-centred.
  • You must be a good communicator (oral and written) and committed to the values of our organisation.

Operational Requirements

  • Availability: Ability to work three 12.5-hour shifts per week, covering a combination of days, nights, and weekends as per the duty rota.
  • Transport: Access to own vehicle or reliable private transport is essential due to our rural location near West Linton with limited public transport.

Remuneration and Benefits

We recognize the value of your expertise and dedication.

  • Competitive Pay: £18.40 per hour
  • Enhanced Rates: A 20% enhancement for all night and weekend shifts.
  • Work-Life Balance: Consistent three-day work week.
  • Benefits: Company pension, on-site parking, sick pay, free lunches, and access to an on-site gym.
