Welcome to Hunter Gatherer Mental Health, your specialist partner for ADHD practitioner recruitment across the UK.
Demand for qualified ADHD practitioners has grown significantly in recent years – driven by rising referral volumes, NHS waiting lists, and the expansion of the Right to Choose pathway. We connect skilled clinicians with NHS trusts, community providers, and private assessment services, and we help services find practitioners who are safe to work autonomously from day one.
What Does an ADHD Practitioner Do?
ADHD practitioners carry out structured assessments to determine whether a patient meets the diagnostic criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, across both children and adults. In many services, practitioners also provide post-diagnostic support, psychoeducation, and titration of ADHD medication – either as a prescriber or working alongside one.
The role draws on clinicians from a range of professional backgrounds. Most NHS and private ADHD services are staffed by registered nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and social workers with specialist neurodevelopmental training and experience. The clinical setting – whether NHS CAMHS, adult community mental health, a Right to Choose provider, or private clinic – shapes the scope and focus of the role.
Why Services Choose Hunter Gatherer for ADHD Practitioner Recruitment:
- We understand the ADHD landscape NHS waiting lists, Right to Choose, private assessment clinics – we work across all three. Our consultants understand the difference between an NHS-capped Band 7 CAMHS assessor role and a remote RtC prescriber position, and we match accordingly.
- Practitioners ready to work autonomously ADHD assessment is a specialist role. We only put forward practitioners with demonstrable assessment experience who can work without additional supervision or hand-holding. Services don’t have time to train people up.
- Compliance checked before they start Professional registration, DBS, prescribing annotation (where relevant), ADHD assessment competency – all verified before a name goes forward.
- Locum and permanent placements Urgent cover for a stretched ADHD service or a long-term hire to build capacity – we support both.

ADHD Practitioner Roles We Place:
- ADHD Assessors Practitioners completing structured ADHD diagnostic assessments using clinical interview, standardised rating scales, collateral history and professional observation. Most NHS roles require autonomous practice at Band 6 or Band 7 level with a minimum of six months’ ADHD assessment experience.
- ADHD Titration Practitioners / Prescribers Nurses or other clinicians with an independent prescribing qualification (V300) managing medication initiation and titration for newly diagnosed patients. High demand across both NHS and Right to Choose providers.
- ADHD Care Coordinators / Case Managers Practitioners managing patient journeys through ADHD pathways — from triage and assessment to treatment and discharge – often at Band 6 level in NHS or community services.
- Right to Choose (RtC) ADHD Practitioners A growing market of clinicians working for NHS-funded private providers under the Right to Choose pathway, often with flexible or remote working arrangements. Assessors, prescribers and coordinators all in demand.
- ADHD Practitioners in CAMHS Practitioners working within CAMHS ADHD services assessing children and young people aged typically 7–18. Often Band 7, requiring CAMHS experience alongside neurodevelopmental competency.
Settings We Recruit For:
- NHS community ADHD services – adults and CAMHS
- NHS CAMHS neurodevelopmental and specialist ADHD services
- Right to Choose (RtC) providers – remote and in-person
- Private ADHD assessment clinics and diagnostic centres
- Integrated community mental health teams with ADHD pathways
Qualifications We Look For:
Every ADHD practitioner we place holds:
- Registration with the appropriate professional body – NMC (nurses), HCPC (psychologists, OTs, social workers), GMC (doctors)
- Demonstrated experience completing ADHD assessments – most services require a minimum of six months’ relevant experience
- Familiarity with NICE guidelines for ADHD (NG87) and the clinical tools used in assessment (e.g. Conners, QbTest, Barkley, DIVA)
- Valid DBS and current mandatory training
- Independent prescribing qualification (V300) for titration and prescribing roles
For CAMHS roles, prior experience with children and young people and an understanding of neurodevelopmental comorbidities (ASD, DLD, attachment difficulties) is expected.
Locum ADHD Practitioner Opportunities:
ADHD assessment and titration work has become one of the most active areas of locum mental health practice in the UK. NHS waiting lists, the growth of Right to Choose, and the expansion of private assessment services mean that experienced ADHD practitioners with the right training and professional registration are in sustained demand – in both community and remote settings.
Whether you’re looking for a short-term block booking to sit alongside a permanent role, or a longer-term locum arrangement in an NHS ADHD service or Right to Choose provider, we’ll find opportunities that match your scope of practice and professional background.

ADHD Practitioner Pay Rates (2025/26):
Locum Band 6 ADHD assessors typically earn £28–£35 per hour, rising to £32–£45 per hour at Band 7 in NHS settings. Practitioners with an independent prescribing qualification working in titration roles can expect £35–£55 per hour.
Right to Choose and private provider rates sit higher – typically the equivalent of £45–£70 per hour for remote or sessional assessment work, reflecting the flexibility and volume these models require.
For permanent salaried roles, Band 6–7 ADHD practitioners earn £38,682–£54,710 per year on NHS Agenda for Change scales.
Rates vary by setting, professional background, prescribing status and location. Our consultants can advise on what the market looks like for your specific background and region.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Do I need specific ADHD training to register? Most services require demonstrated experience rather than a standalone formal qualification. You will need to evidence competency in ADHD assessment using recognised tools (Conners, QbTest, DIVA or similar) and be able to work autonomously. Some providers require or fund UKAAN training for those newer to the specialism.
- Can I do ADHD assessment work remotely? Yes – particularly through Right to Choose providers, many of whom operate fully or predominantly remote assessment models. We have active remote and hybrid ADHD roles available for practitioners in all regions.
- Do you place both adult and paediatric ADHD practitioners? Yes. We place practitioners working with adults, children and young people (CAMHS), and those with a mixed-age caseload, depending on the service.
- Do you place ADHD prescribers as well as assessors? Yes. V300 independent prescribers with ADHD titration experience are in high demand – particularly in Right to Choose services and private providers who need practitioners who can both assess and prescribe.
- What areas do you cover? We place ADHD practitioners across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – including remote and in-person roles nationwide.
