What is CAMHS?

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provide assessment, treatment, and support for children and young people up to the age of 18 experiencing mental health difficulties. Services range from community-based outpatient support through to specialist inpatient care for the most complex presentations.

CAMHS practitioners work with a wide range of conditions including anxiety and depression, eating disorders, psychosis, self-harm, trauma, autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, attachment difficulties, and emerging personality difficulties. The work requires clinical skill, an understanding of child development and family systems, and the ability to engage meaningfully with young people who may be reluctant or distressed.
