Locum Substance Misuse Recovery Worker – Young People (North West)

Are you passionate about supporting young people in overcoming challenges with drugs and alcohol? We’re looking for an experienced Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join a dynamic, community-based service in Banbury, providing vital support to children and young adults aged 8–25.

Location: Banbury & wider community – travel required
Rate of Pay: £20 – £21 per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
Contract: Locum, ongoing

The Role:
In this role, you’ll be delivering tailored interventions to young people across a variety of settings, including schools, community venues, and occasional home visits. You’ll be the first point of contact for individuals whose needs range from early intervention cases (e.g., caught with cannabis once) through to supporting those with more complex, long-standing addictions. You’ll work one day a week from the local childcare centre in Banbury, with the flexibility to work remotely from home, a café, or on the go for the remainder of the week.

 A Day in the Life:

  • Providing one-to-one and group support sessions for young people aged 8–25.

  • Conducting drug and alcohol assessments, risk management, and care planning.

  • Offering harm reduction advice and relapse prevention strategies.

  • Building strong relationships with schools, youth services, and community organisations.

  • Travelling between locations to engage with clients in the most accessible settings for them.

✅ Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with young people in a substance misuse setting.

  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol misuse interventions and safeguarding procedures.

  • Car driver with access to your own vehicle (essential due to community travel).

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate a diverse client group.

If you’re ready to make a real impact on young people’s lives, get in touch with Hannah Chapman on 0203 475 4175 or email hchapman@hg-mh.com to discuss this exciting opportunity.
