A Day in the Life

As a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality psychological care within a community mental health setting. Working under the supervision of a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking protocol-based psychological assessments, including psychometric and neuropsychological measures

  • Assisting in the formulation and delivery of psychologically informed care plans

  • Supporting individualised intervention and treatment planning with the MDT

  • Attending and contributing to multidisciplinary meetings

  • Supporting service users across a range of community-based settings

  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to professional report writing


Teaching, Training & Development

  • Receiving regular clinical supervision in line with professional guidelines

  • Developing practical experience within NHS psychological services

  • Contributing to the training and support of staff in psychologically informed care


Research, Audit & Service Development

  • Assisting with audit, research, and service evaluation projects

  • Collecting, analysing, and presenting data using IT and statistical software (e.g. SPSS)

  • Supporting evidence-based practice through literature reviews and research summaries


Requirements & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Upper second-class honours degree (or above) in Psychology

  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

  • Experience working with individuals with mental health difficulties

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in emotionally sensitive environments

  • Ability to work independently under supervision

Desirable:

  • Experience in community mental health settings

  • Experience with psychometric testing or neuropsychological measures

  • Experience using SPSS or similar data analysis software

  • Interest in pursuing a career in professional psychology
