A Day in the Life in a Perinatal team:

A Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) in a Perinatal Team provides specialized mental health care to pregnant women and new mothers. Their duties include:

  • Assessment: Conducting comprehensive mental health evaluations for new and expectant mothers.
  • Care Planning: Developing and implementing personalized care plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Providing counselling, therapy, and other therapeutic interventions to support maternal mental health.
  • Support and Education: Offering guidance and resources to mothers and families about perinatal mental health issues and management strategies.
  • Coordination of Care: Collaborating with other healthcare providers, social services, and community resources to ensure integrated and comprehensive care.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up: Regularly reviewing patients' progress and adjusting care plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Crisis Management: Responding to and managing mental health crises to ensure the safety and well-being of mothers and their babies.

These duties aim to promote the mental health and well-being of mothers during the perinatal period, ensuring they receive the support and care they need during this crucial time.

Candidates should have previous community experience where assessments and caseload holding is required. Excellent assessment and communications skills are required. The post covers the geographical areas of South London and is most suited to someone who lives in London and is able to drive.

Requirements and qualifications required for this role:

  • Current and valid registration with the NMC.
  • Proven experience within a Perinatal Service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
  • Members of staff should be a driver and have CAMHS/Perinatal experience.
