Locum Social Worker – Children & Families
Package: £50,300 per annum pro rata
Base salary: £35,000 per annum pro rata
International supplement: £15,300 per annum pro rata
Duration: 6-month fixed-term contract

Overview:
We are supporting an overseas government service with a requirement for an experienced Children & Families Social Worker to join their Health and Social Care team.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a small island community, supporting statutory children’s social care, safeguarding, child protection, children in need, looked after children, and court-related work.

The role sits under the supervision of the Children’s Services Team Manager and will involve managing a caseload of complex cases, typically between 10 and 20 depending on complexity. The post also includes capacity-building responsibilities, helping to support and develop local staff through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities:
• Manage a caseload of complex Children & Families cases
• Undertake child in need, child protection, looked after child and court work
• Complete assessments in line with safeguarding frameworks and Working Together guidance
• Prepare high-quality reports and statements for court, case conferences and looked after reviews
• Convene and chair multi-agency meetings and planning meetings
• Complete risk assessments and develop care plans based on assessed need
• Work closely with key agencies including Health, Mental Health, Schools, Police and Probation
• Support practice improvement across the team
• Mentor and support local Social Care Officers
• Participate in the out-of-hours/on-call duty rota where required

Requirements:
• UK-qualified Social Worker with BA/MA Social Work, DipSW or equivalent
• Current registration with Social Work England, Social Care Wales, SSSC or NISCC
• Minimum 3 years’ post-qualifying Children’s Social Care experience
• Strong safeguarding children experience
• Experience managing complex cases and competing priorities
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
• Ability to work flexibly, including some evenings / on-call duties
• Full UK driving licence required

Additional package benefits:
• 7.5% pension contribution paid as a lump sum at the end of the completed contract

• Up to £1,000 excess baggage allowance
• Relocation allowance: £750 at start and £500 at end for a 6-month contract
• 10 days annual leave for the 6-month contract
